Sharks sign D Demers to two-year extension

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks signed defenseman Jason Demers to a two-year contract extension on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Demers finished fourth among NHL rookie defenseman with 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) despite suiting up for only 51 games in 2009-10.

"Jason's puck-moving capabilities and competitive nature fit well with where our team is trending," said Sharks executive vice president and general manager Doug Wilson. "He is very capable of executing the up-tempo style of game we want to play and we see him as an important part of our team."
